eBay opens ‘sneaker’ store in US

eBay has opened a bricks and mortar store for pre-owned trainers in LA.

The e-commerce giant said the ‘Wear ‘Em Out’ store, which will be open on memorial day weekend on FairFax Avenue, will reward so-called ‘sneakerheads’ for wearing their new purchase out of the store.

eBay said that it will be offering up to 70 per cent off market price for leading trainer brands, with a discount for those who literally wear their new shoes out of the shop.

A survey of 1,000 ‘sneakerheads’ conducted by eBay, found that the majority of respondents wear less than half of their collections.

The store will feature a selection of the season's most popular styles, including new releases that would normally only be available at deadstock prices.

Garry Thaniel, general manager of sneakers at eBay: "Most people can identify with that feeling of getting a new pair of shoes that you love so much, you just HAVE to wear them out of the store.

"The Wear 'Em Out Store celebrates a love of sneakers, while acknowledging that sneakerheads are often balancing what they wear with what they keep in the box. eBay is the place to find every style and every price, and now we're offering an incentive to lace up the most coveted sneakers of the summer."
