Amazon opens checkout-free Kensington store

Amazon has opened a new checkout-free store in Kensington, London.

The store is the retail giant’s 17th checkout-free store launched in the UK, and the second launched in 2022.

Powered by Amazon’s ‘Just Walk Out’ technology, the outlet allows customers to pay for groceries automatically when they leave the premises, after first scanning a QR code on their phone when they enter the building.

The move comes after the retail giant opened a new cashierless store in Southwark, south London last week.

Amazon’s newest cashierless store will join London outlets in Angel, Richmond, Camden, Ealing, Wembley Park, and White City.

The news comes after Amazon reported strong financial results for the 2021 financial year, despite facing labour and supply issues during the period.

The retail giant’s sales jumped by 22 per cent to $469.8 billion compared to $386.1 billion in 2020.
