Amazon opens cashierless south London store

Amazon has opened a new cashierless store in Southwark, south London.

The store is the retail giant’s 16th checkout-free store launched in the UK, and the first launched in 2022.

The store will be located at 110 Southwark Street, Southwark, London, SE1 0TA.

Amazon’s newest cashierless store will join London outlets in Angel, Richmond, Camden, Ealing, Wembley Park, and White City.

The news comes as more retailers begin to launch cashierless outlets.

In January, Aldi launched its first checkout-free store in the Greenwich, south-east London.

Amazon is also providing its cashierless ‘Just Walk Out’ technology to third parties. WHSmith opened its first cashierless outlet at the LaGuardia Airport in New York using Amazon’s technology in February.

Retail should not be a high-risk occupation. As a company, we are focused on listening to our colleagues and customers to help them with the issues they are facing in-store and so far, the feedback on our body cameras has been excellent. They act as a great visual deterrent, help to de-escalate situations and overall, this project has significantly aided our goal to make the retail environment safer.
