Westwing migrates to Shopify with new SaaS platform

Furniture retailer Westwing has announced it has migrated to Shopify with a new Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platform.

The company, which has used an internal customised e-commerce platform for the past decade, said it decided to move to the SaaS platform to expand into new markets and facilitate new partnerships.

The Europe-based design and living premium retailer offers a range of over 3,000 brands and its own Westwing Collection, serving 12 countries across the region.

The new platform was built independently by the Westwing team using training materials and support from Patchworks, which develops the technology.

Westwing began migrating to Shopify in late 2023.

Adopting an iterative approach, they spent the first three months focusing on building the base level of the platform and then developed a “rigorous rollout plan”.

The first market to go live was Portugal in early 2024, coinciding with Westwing's first entry into the country.

After the initial migration of three countries, Westwing went live in all twelve markets in which it operates by the end of 2024.

Shopify has grown significantly since its launch in 2012, now supporting over 4.6 million businesses.
