Ocado has entered into a cooperation agreement with Swedish retailer ICA Gruppe, providing the firm with use of its e-commerce platform and technology for automated e-commerce warehouses.
Over the next four years, the retailer will be investing SEK 600 million (£49.6 million) in a fully-automated e-commerce solution in Stockholm, with use of Ocado’s technology and platform designed specifically for grocery products.
The deal marks a third major partnership in the last six months for the UK retailer, following partnerships with Sobeys in Canada and Groupe Casino in France.
Luke Jensen, CEO of Ocado Solutions, commented: “ICA has a strong track record of growth and innovation and our Smart Platform will give the ICA-retailers the opportunity to provide their customers with new levels of service, convenience and value.”
Per Strömberg, CEO of ICA Gruppen, added: “We are now laying the foundation for the next generation e-commerce offering, and we are putting an important piece of the puzzle in place to realise our digital ambitions for all of ICA Gruppen. Today we have the industry’s most efficient processes for physical shopping, and through this agreement we can create the most efficient solutions also for e-commerce.”
