Ikea expands in North West with new ‘plan and order’ units

Ikea is opening a number of “plan and order” points in several locations across the North West as part of its expansion in the region.

The 70 to 90 square metre units, which will be located in retail parks and shopping centres in Aintree, Preston, and Stockport, will showcase around five kitchen and wardrobe solutions and include a consultation area.

The ready-to-assemble furniture retailer said that these units, which are much smaller than its standard stores, are part of its ongoing transformation to make it “easier and more accessible” to shop with the brand and strengthen its physical presence in the region.

There will be no products to take away from the units, instead customers will order items from the unit where they will be delivered to their home or made available for collection at another convenient point for delivery.

The move follows the opening of several "collect near you" points located in select Tesco carparks in the region, in close proximity to the new plan and order points.

“Our investment in the North West is part of our long-term plan to transform our retail business, making it easier for our customers to shop with using a number of convenient ways,” said Marsha Smith, deputy country retail manager, Ikea UK & Ireland. “With a variety of stores, service offers and digital solutions that complement each other, our aim is to be there for our customers, however they want to meet us.”

Ikea said that the units will give free and bespoke design consultations with experienced experts on kitchen and bedroom storage. While they will focus on kitchen and wardrobe design, customers will be able to get help planning any room in their home at the units.
