eBay purchases Norwegian C2C social marketplace

eBay has announced it will acquire Tise, a customer-to customer (C2C) social marketplace headquartered in Oslo.

The global online marketplace said the acquisition, the terms of which were not disclosed, will strengthen its offering in the C2C market and build on the momentum it has achieved in enhancing the customer experience.

Tise has a community of Gen Z and Millennial users which eBay said will continue to drive demand on the platform across categories.

Additionally, eBay said Tise’s community engagement features, such as the ability to follow sellers, and receive personalised product recommendations by liking and commenting on listings, will enrich the eBay C2C experience.

“This acquisition is a natural next step in our investment in Tise, which will allow us to accelerate Tise’s strategy and unlock new opportunities for innovation,” said Oliver Klinck, VP, GM global markets success & C2C. “With Tise’s on-trend inventory, loyal community, and social-first approach, we’ll strengthen eBay’s C2C offerings, and more deeply connect with the next generation of enthusiasts.”

The acquisition follows an investment in Tise made by eBay Ventures in 2022.
eBay said the investment in Tise is expected to bring to eBay complementary C2C capabilities, while extending eBay’s best-in-class customer service and global scale to Tise.

Closing is subject to customary conditions and is expected to occur by the end of the fourth quarter of the year.

In June, eBay announced that it would host a US live event tour that would bring livestream shopping and collector-focused experiences to cities across the country.

“eBay Live on Tour” showcased top eBay sellers, curated inventory, special guests, and real-time broadcasts from hobby shops, conventions, and trade nights.
The live shopping events covered categories including collectibles, luxury goods, sneakers and apparel, with sellers able to get offers from both live auction and through eBay’s “Buy It Now” format.
