Wilko, Homebase owner taps AI-powered supply chain management platform

CDS superstores, owner of variety store brands The Range, Homebase, Wilko and Bathstore, has is overhauling its supply chain management with AI-driven forecasting software as it transitions to a regionalised distribution model.

The retailer has selected Finland-based Relex Solutions to provide the platform, which forecasts demand at store level and incorporates localised patterns and trends into its calculations.

CDS is in the process of transitioning to a regionalised distribution model, and intends to use Relex’s AI driven platform to improve visibility across stores and distribution centres. The software forecasts demand at store level, incorporating “localised patterns and trends” into its calculations, according to a press release.

The retailer will roll out the software to its more than 285 stores, affecting more than 65,000 SKUs.

“As we continue to grow, investing in technology that strengthens our supply chain is essential,” said Alex Simpkin, CDS Superstores’ chief executive.

“Relex gives us enhanced visibility and smarter forecasting across our network, helping us ensure the right products are available for our customers at the right time. This is an important step in building the operational resilience and scalability required to support our long-term growth ambitions.”

CDS is currently in a period of expansion. During its 2024-25 operating year, it opened 19 new stores, and posted a 13.5 per cent increase in revenue across the same period, according to Companies House filings. It has also opened a new distribution centre in the South of England.
Relex Solutions products have been adopted by several large chains this year, including Tim Hortons, Burger King and French retail chain Monoprix.
