TikTok head of listing and e-commerce compliance departs

Jan De Baets, the head of listing and e-commerce compliance at TikTok, has left the video-sharing platform after almost two years.

De Baets joined the social media app in 2023 as EMEA lead content and creator governance, where he was tasked with streamlining policies, technology and execution to support UK growth and enabling TikTokShop in EU.

He was later promoted to his most recent role 2024, where he led a team focused on deploying regional policies to ensure the company’s compliance with content regulations. The role also included extending producer responsibility, sustainability and supply chain compliance.

Prior to this, he spent seven years at Amazon where he was head of EU customer trust / trustworthy listing from 2022. There, his scope spanned compliance and risk management with a focus on illegal products, IP infringements, catalogue abuse, product compliance and healthcare compliance for medical devices and pharma products.

From 2001 to 2009, he served at DHL, where he was quality, safety and environment executive during the final two years at the logistics provider.

In a LinkedIn post, De Baets said: “And that's a wrap! After 18 months of foundational compliance work to launch TikTok Shop in five EU countries, contributing to the Digital Service Act (DSA) and UK’s online safety act (OSA) content risk assessments and onboarding new governance teams.”

He added he will continue to support governance strategist and programme manager e-commerce EMEA Daniel Morales and head of compliance Ellie Holmes over the coming weeks.

Commenting on the current e-commerce landscape, De Baets said: “We've all seen how discovery commerce is changing online shopping in Europe and I will continue to cheer for you (TikTok) from the sidelines.”
