Søstrene Grene plans to open 100 UK stores by 2027

Danish family-owned homewares retailer Søstrene Grene is boosting its growth plans in the UK as it announces three new stores in the country and a goal of 100 stores by 2027.

Founded in 1973, the company offers a wide range of homewares, furniture, kitchenware and hobby products.

The move forms part of a wider strategy that will see the retailer launch 60 new stores across Europe in 2025 alone.

As part of this initiative, the retailer has confirmed the opening of three new stores in Harrogate, Canary Wharf and Stirling for summer 2025.

Group chief executive officer and co-owner Mikkel Grene said the move represents “an opportunity to bring something different to the UK High Street”, at a time when “fresh thinking is needed.”

“We’re making long-term investments because we believe in the continued relevance of physical retail especially when it delivers a meaningful customer experience and emotional connection,” he said.

The chief executive highlighted the positive response from UK customers to the Søstrene Grene concept.

“We continue to see strong footfall, high levels of engagement, and real appetite for new locations – even in areas where other retailers are pulling back,” he added.

Søstrene Grene, which currently operates over 330 stores in 17 European countries, is increasing its physical presence; but the company is also boosting its online e-commerce presence, announcing plans to increase its market presence from 15 to 17 markets by 2026.

In December 2024, the retailer announced a significant investment in infrastructure for a new 45,000-square-metre facility in the Netherlands that will serve as a logistics hub, with plans to open it by autumn 2025.
