SPAR Netherlands is to roll out smart parcel lockers across the country through a new partnership with couriers including DHL, DPD and Vinted Go, allowing customers to send or collect parcels from SPAR locations.
The retailer said the new service responds to growing demand for flexibility and convenience in managing packages whilst doing daily shopping. SPAR Netherlands, which provides branding and support services to its franchisees, said the rollout will begin later this year and all SPAR Netherlands retailers will be invited to participate.
By partnering with multiple providers, SPAR Netherlands said retailers can select the solution that best suits their local customer base, adding that this approach will create a nationwide network of smart, customer-friendly parcel points at the heart of the community. The retailer said the new service complements its existing parcel services, which act as a "vital" local amenity in smaller towns.
"Parcel lockers not only drive additional footfall, but they also strengthen SPAR's role as a local service hub," said Nino Tamnge, category manager at SPAR Netherlands. "We aim to make life as easy as possible for our customers. This fits perfectly with our convenience strategy — focused on proximity, speed and accessibility."
Earlier this month, Aldi announced the installation of InPost parcel lockers in more than half of its UK stores, with plans to expand the service to over 600 locations by the end of the year.
The discounter currently provides InPost lockers at 536 stores across England, Scotland and Wales, enabling customers to collect and return online orders during their regular shop. Through its partnership with InPost, Aldi aims to enhance convenience and efficiency for shoppers by integrating parcel collection and returns into the weekly grocery experience.
