Marks & Spencer to introduce same-day clothing delivery

Marks & Spencer (M&S) is reportedly planning on becoming the first large retailer to launch a nationwide same-day clothing delivery service.

The company’s chief executive Steve Rowe announced the plans in an interview with The Times on Monday.

The new service would be quicker than rivals Asos and Next, which currently only offer next day delivery. While Zara does offer a same-day delivery service, it’s only accessible to Londoners.

It is believed that M&S will offer its service to the whole of the UK.

Rowe told the newspaper that the move would demonstrate how brick and mortar retailers could use their stores as an advantage in online retailing.

“People think of the store portfolio as being an albatross around our neck but I don’t think it is, I think we are going to have a multichannel proposition so we can be where our customers want and they can choose how quickly they want it,” he said.

The M&S chief exec also responded to criticism that the chain retailer had lost relevance to its core 50-plus shoppers saying that “age is not a definer of behaviour or attitude or style. Our customers want quality, stylish, wearable, contemporary, not stuff off the runway. They want it to fit well, be made from great fabrics and that is not defined by age.”
