Walmart increases pay for 3,000 pharmacy technicians

Walmart has announced it will increase pay for employees working in its pharmacy operations teams through new investment across almost 4,600 locations in the US.

The pay boost is part of the US retail giant’s plans to expand its health and wellness services by creating new leadership roles in its pharmacy teams.

Around 3,000 people will have the potential to earn up to $42 per hour plus bonuses, depending on their locations, up from an average of $28 per hour.

The US retailer said it will also increase pay for pharmacy technicians, who currently earn around $22 per hour.

Following investment by Walmart, these pharmacy technicians will receive as much as $40.50 per hour depending on their qualifications and working location.

The size of the investment supporting the pay increases was not disclosed.

Walmart said the pay increases will strengthen the care experience in communities across the country as well as creating long-term careers for pharmacy technicians.

The company added that pharmacy technicians are a critical part of the healthcare journey and helping keep pharmacies running smoothly.

“This investment is really about supporting the pharmacy teams who show up for their communities every day,” said Kevin Host, senior vice president of pharmacy at Walmart. “We want care to feel simple and close to home - our pharmacists and technicians make that possible.”
