Walmart appoints e-commerce head

Walmart has appointed Tom Ward as head of its e-commerce division, according to sources reported by The Wall Street Journal.

Ward has worked for Walmart since 2013 in a variety of different management roles and has also previously worked for Asda.

The UK-born executive’s most recent role at the retail giant was senior vice president of last mile delivery.

Ward will replace Casey Carl, who is set to leave the US-based retail giant in February according to the newspaper’s sources.

The retailer did not disclose the reasons behind Carl’s departure.

The news comes as Walmart is currently implementing new types of technology.

In November 2021, Walmart and partner autonomous vehicle partner Gatik announced that they are operating daily without a safety driver behind the wheel on a delivery route in Arkansas.
