Waitrose is launching a subscription service for online grocery deliveries following a successful trial.
The new ‘Waitrose Delivery Pass’ gives customers with an online grocery account the option to pay upfront for their chosen subscription period of one month, six month, or 12-months and book up to one available grocery delivery slot per day at no additional delivery cost.
An individual delivery booked without a pass costs between £2 and £4 depending upon the type of slot.
A one month pass will cost £8, a six month pass will cost £45, and an annual pass will cost £85.
Waitrose, which last financial year saw sales jump 4.4 per cent to £8 billion, said that the annual pass is estimated to save a customer booking one £4 delivery per week up to £123 per year.
The pass will also give customers early access to sought after Waitrose Christmas delivery slots, which go live in September.
“We’re investing in our online business to continuously improve it, giving our customers even greater value and the best possible experience," said Laura Burbedge, director of Waitrose Online. "Thousands of customers signed up for Delivery Passes through our trial, so we expect to see strong demand across the UK as we roll it out.”
The move comes after Waitrose last month launched offers to loyalty customers who order via Uber Eats when they link their My Waitrose account to their Uber Eats account.
Earlier this month, Waitrose announced a “multi-million” investment in a 360,000sq ft distribution centre in Bristol to serve customers in the Southwest.
The site, which will be the supermarket’s first in the region, will be operational towards the end of 2026.
Waitrose will use the distribution centre to make deliveries to around 50 existing supermarkets, with capacity to support further stores.
