John Lewis has launched a rapid delivery pilot with Uber Eats, offering customers in Leeds and Stratford access to 150 curated products within 30 minutes of ordering through the food delivery app.
The partnership covers nursery items, premium beauty products and gifts, serving customers within an 8km radius of John Lewis stores in the two locations. Products range from baby bottles and skincare to last-minute birthday gifts, with pricing matching that found in John Lewis shops and online to maintain the retailer's "Never Knowingly Undersold" promise.
Stella Winklewska, category lead at John Lewis, said: "Our pilot with Uber Eats will make it easier than ever for customers to access the John Lewis products they love, delivered to their location within the hour. It's an exciting strategic step to reach a new audience, and helps ensure that we're there for our customers when they really need us - however they choose to shop with us."
The collaboration comes as retail sales on Uber Eats have grown significantly, with make-up sales increasing by 85 per cent since last year and perfume sales up 88 per cent over the same period. Customers are increasingly turning to rapid delivery services for items beyond food, seeking convenience for everything from emergency baby supplies to premium cosmetics.
Alex Troughton, head of retail at Uber Eats EMEA, said: "We're seeing significant growth in retail on Uber Eats as customers look to get everything from beauty products and gifts to baby essentials delivered in minutes. By combining John Lewis' product range with Uber Eats' technology, we're helping customers get easy access to everyday items and premium picks alike."
The product selection includes items from established brands such as Charlotte Tilbury, Clinique, Hotel Chocolat and Emma Bridgewater. Baby care products from MAM, including bottles and soothers, feature alongside luxury fragrances from Gucci and Montblanc, as well as John Lewis's own-brand items such as handheld fans and gift bags.
The pilot programme will run through to early September, with John Lewis using the period to assess customer demand, purchasing behaviours and operational logistics before considering a wider national rollout. The partnership represents John Lewis's continued efforts to reach new customers and provide flexible shopping options across different platforms.
John Lewis operates 34 shops across the UK alongside its online platform, whilst Uber Eats partners with over 700,000 restaurants and merchants across more than 6,000 cities globally, delivering with an average time of 30 minutes.
