John Lewis has launched “the biggest” multi-brand menswear rental platform on the UK High Street.
The platform has been launched in partnership with HURR, a rental and resale marketplace, and follows the launch of a similar service for womenswear in 2022.
The retailer said that the move will encourage customers to shop in a more sustainable way that is also “better for their wallets”.
Customers will be able to rent a garment for a fixed time period from four to 30 days. A number of brands are available on the platform including BOSS Tailoring, Charles Tyrwhitt and new brand Hay Life.
John Lewis said that searches for ‘men's rental’ have been consistently in the top 30 search terms on its website for the past 18 months illustrating demand for the service.
Since it launched a womenswear rental platform in 2022, John Lewis said rentals have grown 40 per cent year on year. The company has added maternity wear, ski wear and wedding dresses in response to consumer demand.
“We’re unique on the high street to be able to offer the widest range of multiple brands to rent from everyday suits to more premium brands and styles,” said Kathleen Mitchel, John Lewis commercial director. “A perfect solution for a last minute dinner party or day at the races.
“This is just the beginning of menswear rental and we’re really excited to see it grow.”
