Currys extends trial of accessibility tool

Electronics retailer Currys has extended the trial of an accessibility tool to 20 of its London stores.

The WelcoMe web app is designed to make shopping easier for customers with disabilities by allowing them to register their specific needs prior to visiting a local Currys store. This enables employees to prepare for their visit and accommodate any specific requirements.

Currys says the tool gives employees access to useful information and best practice techniques which are provided by leading charities and designed to heighten disability awareness in general.

The rollout builds on a successful trial in Birmingham in March.

London stores trialling the app include those in Canary Wharf, Brixton and Tottenham Court Road.

“We really do mean it when we say we help everyone enjoy amazing technology, and our partnership with WelcoMe plays perfectly into our ambition,” said Sameena Panwala, general manager at the Currys Oxford Street store. “I’m already seeing the benefits of the tool be brought to life.

“Just the other day a customer shared the most amazing feedback about their experience in our store – outlining how they received a fantastic service and my team made their experience so much smoother than usual.”

Last month, Currys announced it will give 50 of its largest stores a makeover this year to showcase new product categories and seasonal ranges.
Stores being revamped include those in Bristol, Birmingham and Nottingham, while the company’s Solihull and Brentford stores have already been reopened under the new format.
