Butlers rolls out new POS system across 100 stores

German lifestyle retailer Butlers has launched a new checkout system across 100 stores in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

The point of sale (POS) technology, which was installed in partnership with software provider Retail7, was rolled out in just under eight weeks.

The pilot system was set up and tested at the homewares and gift retailer’s headquarters in Cologne.

Following a week’s trial, 200 new POS terminals were centrally prepared by Butlers, delivered to over 100 stores, and set up with the support of communications company Telekom.

Butlers, which was founded in 1999, sells a range of furniture, home decoration, accessories and gifts.

It employs over 800 people across more than 100 stores in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. The company also has an online presence.

Additionally, it has around 21 franchise locations in other European countries, with the company selling its products at over 5,000 external points of sale across Europe.

The company added that as well as the implementation of normal POS functions, the project also included integration into existing systems and ensuring compliance with all fiscal requirements.

Additionally, Butler’s voucher processes and customer loyalty programme homeCLUB were also integrated into the new POS system.

“Retail7 has achieved an extraordinary feat,” said André Martens, co-managing director at Butlers. “Not only did they deliver a completely new POS solution in a very short time, but the team also understood our business immediately and configured the standard solution to our requirements as quickly as possible, thus ensuring the continued operation of our stores.”
