Dutch-Belgian grocery retailer Ahold Delhaize has announced that it has appointed Alexandros Boussis as the new brand president of local Belgian brand Delhaize.
Boussis currently holds the role of SVP commerce & marketing at the company.
He will begin his new role from January 1 2026, taking over from Xavier Piesvaux.
Boussis started working at Delhaize in 2011, holding a number of senior roles in finance and commerce over the 14-year-period, including as director pricing & promotion.
He has also been a member of the Delhaize executive committee since 2019, with the company saying he has made a strong contribution to cross-brand collaboration efforts, generating tangible value for the brand and wider group.
Boussis started his career at consulting company Ernst and Young and spent five years working in Brussels in various roles at the consulting company.
Piesvaux started as brand president of Delhaize in September 2017.
The company said that over eight years, he has revitalised Delhaize’s brand with a strategy built around fresh and healthy products and has future-proofed its organisation and business model.
Delhaize added that Piesvaux will continue to work in the Ahold Delhaize organisation, with plans to announce his new role in due course.
“Together with his team, Xavier maintained a strong commitment to delivering healthy food and excellent service to Delhaize customers and communities, and succeeded in strengthening the Delhaize brand within the Belgian and Luxembourg retail market,” said Claude Sarrailh, chief executive Ahold Delhaize Europe & Indonesia. “Secondly, I’d like to congratulate Alexandros with his well-deserved step within the Delhaize family.
“In his previous roles, he has consistently demonstrated deep market insight and strategic vision, qualities that make me confident he will drive the continued growth of the Delhaize brand.”
In August, Ahold Delhaize announced it had signed an agreement to divest its 87 Romanian stores to Romanian supermarket company Annabella.
The divestment was a condition set by the Romanian Competition Council (RCC) following Ahold Delhaize’s acquisition of Romanian chain Profi earlier this year.
Of the 87 stores to be divested, 82 are currently operated by Profi, with the remaining five operated by Mega Image, Ahold Delhaize’s other supermarket brand in the Romanian market.
