9 companies join Shopify sustainability fund

Shopify has said it will support nine new tech-driven companies through its sustainability fund.

This will bring its total carbon removal purchase commitment to $32 million.

It said that it is the largest purchaser for eight and the first purchaser for four of the new partners.

The nine companies are as follows:-

• Direct Air Capture: Noya and Sustaera
• Forest: DroneSeed
• Mineralisation: Carbin Minerals
• Product: CarbonBuilt
• Soil: Loam
• Storage: 44.01
• Transportation: Twelve and Remora

“Purchasing carbon removal from leading companies is critical to helping them scale, but purchasing from emerging companies pursuing novel approaches is equally essential,” said Stacy Kauk, Shopify head of sustainability. “We need as many companies as possible innovating in this space to remove over 200 years of emissions to go beyond critical emission reductions.”

Shopify explained that each company it has purchased from is working towards its shared goal of “finding innovative ways to create a more sustainable future”.
