The most-read Retail Systems stories of 2022

With the end of 2022 in sight, we crunched the numbers to bring you a round-up of Retail Systems’ most popular stories of the year.

The top story was a feature article exploring the potential threats and advantages of the metaverse.

Earlier this year, Marks and Spencer announced it was close to completing its rollout of RFID across all non-food products at the Retail Technology. It was this news, revealed by Richard Jenkins–the retailer’s head of loss, prevention, strategy, and projects, central store operation–which was the second most-read story of the year.

In third place was the announcement that Asda was hiring Michael Gleeson as the company’s chief financial officer, taking over from John Fallon. Gleeson joined the supermarket retailer from Morrisons, where he was CFO for a number of years.

Next was the news that Co-op was hiring two new co-managing directors to replace its food chief executive Jo Whitefield. The food retail business announced that its chief operating officer Chris Whitfield and chief commercial officer would take on the new roles from May.

Finally, in fifth place was another story about the Co-op as it was announced that Shirine Khoury-Haq would become the first-ever women chief executive. She took over from Steve Murrells who had worked at the Co-op for 10 years and as chief exec for half of that time.
