Primark launches circular fashion collection

Primark has launched a 35-piece collection which is designed to be recycled and reused.

The range, which is part of Primark’s commitment to give clothes a longer life, is based on a set of principles established by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation.

Primark said that the collection uses more sustainably sourced materials than its standard range.

According to the retailer, 95 per cent of the cotton used comes from a sustainable cotton programme, which uses less water and pesticides.

Primark also claims that the collection is more durable, explaining that components of the clothing, such as buttons, can be reused or turned into into new fibres or new products.

The collection, which contains clothing for men, women and children, will be available in stores from mid-April.

“While we hope our customers enjoy wearing every piece in the collection, we also want to bring them on this journey with us as we look to change mindsets about what an affordable, circular product looks like,” said Nicholas Lambert, Circular Product Lead at Primark.

He added: “This collection was created by a small group of our designers, buyers and suppliers piloting our new Circular Product Standard and, while we know this is just one small step in our commitment to become a more circular business, we’re excited to now roll these new design principles out across our business and with more suppliers, allowing us to scale it up.”
