Next re-opens online operations

Next is partly reopening its online business after implementing new COVID-19 safety measures.

The move also follows consultation with staff and the USDAW shop workers union.

The clothing and homewares retailer temporarily closed its online, warehousing and distribution operations on 26 March, in line with government lockdown measures.

But a statement explained that it will now open its online business in a very limited way by only offering products in categories that customers most need - such as childrenswear and selected homewares - with other product ranges added at a later date.

To help maintain social distancing, Next said it plans to begin selling in low volumes so that only a small number of team members will work in each warehouse at any one time.

However, this means that it will only take orders for the number of items it believes can be picked safely on any given day. Once it has reached capacity, the retailer stated that it will stop taking orders and convert the website to ‘browse only’ until the following morning.

Poundland significantly reduces antisocial behaviour, aggression and shoplifting with Motorola Solutions VT100 body cameras
Retail should not be a high-risk occupation. As a company, we are focused on listening to our colleagues and customers to help them with the issues they are facing in-store and so far, the feedback on our body cameras has been excellent. They act as a great visual deterrent, help to de-escalate situations and overall, this project has significantly aided our goal to make the retail environment safer.
