Matalan appoints non-executive director

Matalan has announced the appointment of Jeremy Pee to the board as non-executive director.

He joins the clothing and homeware retailer from Marks & Spencer, where he was chief digital and technology officer and led the business’ digital transformation across a five-year period.

Pee has also held roles at Loblaw Digital, where he established the online division of Canada’s largest retailer, and stationary retailer Staples.

He is also currently a non-executive board member of HM Land Registry.

“We are delighted to welcome Jeremy to the Board. He brings deep retail experience and unparalleled expertise in digital and technological transformation,” said Karl-Heinz Holland, chair of Matalan. “I know both will prove hugely valuable as we refine and deliver Matalan’s omnichannel strategy to serve families better.”

In July, Matalan announced total revenue had dropped by eight per cent to £263.6 million in the 13 weeks to 27 May, which the retailer blamed on changing customer habits largely driven by the cost-of-living crisis. However, sales did increase by nearly six per cent to £122.5 million in the five weeks to 1 July.
