UK independent leather retailer Lakeland Leather has integrated a new system that allows customers to choose a ‘Ship to Shop’ option at checkout.
The service enables shoppers to collect their online orders from local collection points instead of having them delivered to their homes.
The system was integrated in collaboration with HubBox, a logistics and e-commerce software service provider.
In a LinkedIn post, Rowan Turnbull, e-commerce manager at Lakeland Leather said: “We’ve just gone live with HUbBox, meaning customers can now choose Ship to Shop at checkout.”
He explained that the new option allows people to receive their orders at local collection points such as Co-op and other shops.
“Logistics can be tricky when you’re based out on a limb in the Lakes, and we’ve had to work around a few limits in what the big delivery networks offer,” continued Turnball.
Orders made through the new service are delivered through DPD.
Lakeland Leather had previously considered logistics company InPost for this service but because it is based in the Lake District pick-ups were not possible in the area.
Turnbull explained that the integration was not as simple as adopting a ready-made solution because the configuration was not perfectly compatible with its checkout system, with the company making customised changes to address this.
“It always feels a bit touch and go changing the checkout, but we’ve ironed it out and it runs smoothly,” Turnbull added.
Many retailers are boosting their logistics as they prepare for the peak shopping season.
In October, Asda announced a new partnership that will see Evri’s ParcelShop service rolled out across all of its stores ahead of the busy festive period.
Evri's ParcelShop service is a nationwide network of local drop-off and collection points where customers can send, collect and return parcels.
Through the new ParcelShop service, shoppers will be able to send, collect and return parcels from thousands of retailers directly in Asda stores, making the supermarket the first in the UK to offer a national parcel collection and return network. .
