Ikea has opened its sixth permanent Collect location at a UK Tesco store.

Ikea Collect, also known as Click & Collect, allows customers to order items online and collect them from a chosen collection point.

Through permanent collection points, customers can order online and collect their purchases from self-service lockers located in Tesco car parks.

These lockers are accessible at any time by customers who receive a six-digit code to unlock them.

In addition to these six permanent lockers, Ikea offers the Collect service through its 22 physical Ikea stores across the UK.

The service is also available through its hundreds of mobile collection points located in Tesco stores. These are temporary or scheduled collection points where Ikea vans deliver orders at pre-arranged times.

Celebrating the launch in a post on LinkedIn, Marlein Wiertsema , global development and innovation fullfilment and services manager at Ikea said: “Bringing Ikea closer to you — one locker at a time!”

The furniture retail giant said it plans to expand the Collect service, which is also available in Belgium and the Netherlands, to more locations across Europe and Asia.

“While our UK collaboration is thriving, we’re still on the hunt for the perfect locker spots in other markets,” Wiertsema said.

She added that the hunt is a challenge, but “one worth tackling”.

“Offering affordable, flexible delivery options closer to where people live (without needing to be at the doorstep) is key to making everyday life easier both for the customer and for us retailers,” she said.

In July, the retailer also announed the opening of the first of three new small stores in Harlow, 100 days after acquiring the lease.

The two other compact shops, which will be located in Norwich and Chester, will open by the end of the year.

Considerably smaller than the other big-box IKEA stores, the new small store in Harlow offers access to IKEA's range of 10,000 products, including glasses, storage boxes and photo frames, as well as small furniture items, with the option of home delivery or free in-store pick up the next day.
