Etsy adds image search function

Etsy has added a new image search function to its platform.

Users of Apple’s iOS operating system can now search the independent marketplace by tapping the new camera icon in the search bar to upload or take a photo.

The company said it is excited for the feature to make it easier for sellers to get discovered and connect with its base of nearly 90 million buyers around the world.

The new feature was developed as part of CodeMosaic, the annual Etsy hackathon which gives engineers opportunities to develop “creative solutions” for the online marketplace, the company said.

It added that as the company continues to improve the user experience, it hopes to expand image search to Android app users in the near future.

A recent survey by Uswitch, the price comparison website, found that etsy.com was the eighth most-visited retail domain globally with an average of 379 million visits per month.

Retail should not be a high-risk occupation. As a company, we are focused on listening to our colleagues and customers to help them with the issues they are facing in-store and so far, the feedback on our body cameras has been excellent. They act as a great visual deterrent, help to de-escalate situations and overall, this project has significantly aided our goal to make the retail environment safer.
