Amazon to roll out BNPL option in Canada

Amazon has announced the expansion of its partnership with Affirm, the Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) provider, to offer the company’s BNPL option at checkout for customers in Canada.

Once selected at checkout, Affirm performs a ‘soft’ credit check on customers. If approved, customers then have the option to split their purchases of $50 or more into monthly payments.

“We’re always looking to enhance the paying experience for our customers, including how and when they can pay for their orders,” said David Williams, vice president of Amazon Payment Products. “Introducing Affirm in Canada gives our customers another flexible payment option for their purchases.”

The expanded partnership in Canada follows Amazon’s rollout of Affirm’s payment option in the US, with the payment option set to become available on within the next month.

Geoff Kott, Affirm’s chief revenue officer, commented: "Since launching with Amazon in the US, we've been providing eligible Amazon customers with a powerful tool to responsibly increase their purchasing power.”

He added: “We are excited to bring customers shopping on the opportunity to pay for everyday items and milestone purchases with Affirm as we deliver the same level of transparency and flexibility that customers have come to expect from Affirm across our markets in North America and beyond."
