Amazon launches three London stores

Amazon has launched three new London stores which use its cashierless “Just Walk Out” technology.

The new Amazon Fresh stores, in Chingford, Euston, and Wandsworth, will bring the retail giant’s total portfolio of UK grocery stores to 15.

Amazon’s “Just Walk Out” technology uses a combination of cameras, sensors, and machine learning to detect when a customer puts items in their basket, then automatically charges their account when they walk out.

Amazon launched its first cashierless shop in March this year in Ealing, West London

The news comes as third parties are adopting Amazon’s cashierless technology. Starbucks launched a new pickup-only store in New York City using Amazon's "Just Walk Out" checkout free technology in November.

In November, former Amazon executive Brittain Ladd claimed that Amazon’s cashierless Just Walk Out stores have made every grocery supermarket around the world “obsolete.”

Poundland significantly reduces antisocial behaviour, aggression and shoplifting with Motorola Solutions VT100 body cameras
Retail should not be a high-risk occupation. As a company, we are focused on listening to our colleagues and customers to help them with the issues they are facing in-store and so far, the feedback on our body cameras has been excellent. They act as a great visual deterrent, help to de-escalate situations and overall, this project has significantly aided our goal to make the retail environment safer.
