Aldi invests £122m in price cuts so far this year

Aldi has announced it has invested £122 million in lowering prices so far this year.

The discounter said it has reduced prices on around 500 items since the start of 2026, including fresh and frozen food, household essentials and personal care products.

Aldi said the move has helped shoppers save more on their weekly shops.

“We know that many households are continuing to feel the pressure of rising costs, which is why we’ve already invested £122 million in lowering prices this year and will continue to do everything we can to keep prices down for our customers,” said Julie Ashfield, chief commercial officer at Aldi UK. “With nearly 500 products reduced so far in 2026, we’re helping shoppers make their money go further without compromising on quality.”

According to consumer watchdog Which?, Aldi was Britain’s cheapest supermarket in 2025, with the most expensive supermarket costing on average 35 per cent more than an Aldi shop.

Aldi was also named Which? cheapest supermarket for January, February and March 2026.

Last week, Aldi UK announced plans to add solar panels to a further 62 of its stores by the end of 2026, bringing the total number to over 500.

The project is part of an £8.4 million investment to install panels on 100 of its stores in 2025 and 2026. Each installation can provide up to 30 per cent of a store’s annual energy requirements.
