blow LTD gets backing from Unilever Ventures

blow LTD, an online startup providing on demand beauty services, has secured more than £1 million in its latest round of funding, including a direct investment of £500,000 from Unilever Ventures.

blow – which describes itself as the “Uber for beauty” – also received investment from an angel investor and from a crowdfunding campaign hosted on the Seedrs platform.

The company sends beauty services, such as hairdressers and make-up artists, to customers’ doors in London’s Zones 1, 2 and 3. Customers are able to book and rate the professionals via a mobile app or online, while professionals self-manage their availability and accept jobs via the app.

The firm has provided more than 70,000 services to date, registering over 90 per cent customer satisfaction. blow also operates flagship beauty bars in Covent Garden and Canary Wharf, and sells a range of beauty products, available to purchase in-store, online or via the app.

Unilever Ventures is the venture capital and private equity arm of consumer goods giant Unilever, with the £500,000 investment marking the eighth investment from their third fund.

Dharmash Mistry, co-founder of blow, commented: “We are delighted to bring on board the Unilever Ventures team to help us scale our vision for beauty services on demand and create the next distribution channel for products in the UK and beyond. In parallel, the success of our equity crowdfunding experiment means we embark on the next stage of the blow LTD journey with nearly 200 new brand ambassadors.”
