Wirecard reveals pay by mirror tech

Wirecard has revealed a new smart mirror prototype, which is Germany's first mirror through which consumers can also pay.

Developed by the company’s Innovation Lab, the mirror also offers alternative sizes, different colours and matching products on its interactive display.

If the consumer clicks ‘purchase’ and scans a QR code, the payment is triggered, eliminating the need to search for alternative sizes and colours and avoids long lines at the checkout. The goods can be picked up afterwards or delivered.

Jörn Leogrande, executive vice president at Wirecard Labs, said: “This concept is not only appealing to customers, but also offers merchants many benefits from additional sales opportunities - one of the key features is the easy and fully digital checkout, which can be done with the customer’s own device - so no need to queue or take out their credit or loyalty cards.”

Merchants can tailor the feature set to maintain their preferred level of consumer interaction and integrate different channels, or integrate surveys, targeted discounts and options to share on social media.

Retail should not be a high-risk occupation. As a company, we are focused on listening to our colleagues and customers to help them with the issues they are facing in-store and so far, the feedback on our body cameras has been excellent. They act as a great visual deterrent, help to de-escalate situations and overall, this project has significantly aided our goal to make the retail environment safer.
