Waitrose introduces GAIL’s Bakery across 64 stores

Waitrose has announced it will introduce GAIL’s Bakery areas across 64 stores following a successful trial in three locations last year.

The move follows the news that John Lewis Partnership, which owns the supermarket, suffered losses of £234 million in 2022. The company has said it will scrap bonuses, cut staff numbers and may overhaul its mutual ownership structure.

Waitrose said the bakery areas will be launched in stores across the south and east of England by May this year.

Waitrose, which has sold GAIL’s bread since 2010, currently stocks GAIL’s products in 95 Waitrose shops in the UK as well as online. The new launch will bring the total number of shops with a GAIL’s bakery area to 159.

“The GAIL’s brand is really loved by our customers, so I’m delighted that we’re rolling out this bigger range and dedicated areas,” said Aileen Kell, Waitrose bread buyer. “Like us GAIL’s are passionate about sustainability when it comes to using high quality ingredients, packaging, and recycling so they make a great partner for us as we grow our baked goods business.”
