Very Group loses head office jobs, creates new tech roles

The Very Group is cutting 141 office jobs, while creating 100 new roles in technology-focused teams, as part of a Coronavirus-driven restructure.

The parent company of online retailers Littlewoods and Very said it would make 106 head office roles and 35 customer care roles redundant.

The online retail group explained that it would also introduce measures aimed at “retaining the digital ways of working and increased levels of flexibility and autonomy”, which have proven effective since the lockdown came into place three months ago.

This means that its customer care centre in Aintree will close next year, with its 500 staff working between the firm’s Speke headquarters and from home.

“As we look to the future, we need the right team structures, working practices and environments to enable us to meet the opportunities and tackle the challenges that lie ahead,” stated chief executive Henry Birch.

“That means reshaping our business and bringing in new people and skills to enhance our capabilities - unfortunately, that also means that we will be making a number of existing roles redundant."

Birch added: “Faced with the Coronavirus pandemic, we adapted quickly and successfully to continue serving our customers, including setting up our customer care team to work from home."
