Tesco has announced that shoppers will be able to buy its grocery range through Uber Eats and Deliveroo as the supermarket looks to expand the reach of its rapid delivery service and grow its online business.
The retailer said the partnerships will give millions more customers access to thousands of grocery, fresh food, household and everyday essentials.
It added that customers will be able to access hundreds of Clubcard Prices and collect Clubcard points when ordering through the two delivery platforms.
Tesco will launch on Uber Eats in August, with Deliveroo following later in the summer.
The move builds on the growth of Tesco's rapid delivery service, Whoosh, which launched in 2021 and now operates from around 1,800 stores, covering more than 70 per cent of the UK population. The retailer said Whoosh sales grew by 51 per cent last year, with around 1.5 million customers now using the service.
Whoosh offers grocery deliveries from as little as 20 minutes and has expanded since its launch to offer same-day delivery slots, no minimum spend, larger basket sizes, and a wider product range through more than 250 larger Tesco stores.
Tesco said the new partnerships will complement its existing online grocery business, which reaches more than 99 per cent of the UK population and fulfils over 1.2 million orders each week. The retailer's online business now generates annual sales of £7.5 billion.
Ashwin Prasad, UK chief executive at Tesco, said the partnerships would help the retailer reach more customers while building on the success of Whoosh.
“Our online business continues to go from strength to strength, and these partnerships represent another important step in expanding our reach,” he added. “By combining Tesco's market-leading range, quality and value with the scale of Uber Eats and Deliveroo, we're making it even easier for more customers to shop with Tesco in the way that suits them best.”
