Screwfix plans 85 new store openings by 2024

Screwfix has announced intentions to open 85 new stores across the UK, Ireland and France by early 2024.

The hardware retailer says the new stores will create over 800 new jobs in local communities.

The announcement follows a record year of store openings for the retailer in 2022 which saw its first five store openings in France and a total of 87 new store openings across its regions of operation.

All the new stores will be equipped with air source heat pumps to provide heating and hot water, which is in line with the retailer’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions, the hardware retailer said.

Screwfix chief executive John Mewitt said the latest expansion plans would make Screwfix “even more accessible” to tradespeople.

“This is a very exciting time to be part of Screwfix as we continue to grow and deliver on our ambitions,” he added

Retail should not be a high-risk occupation. As a company, we are focused on listening to our colleagues and customers to help them with the issues they are facing in-store and so far, the feedback on our body cameras has been excellent. They act as a great visual deterrent, help to de-escalate situations and overall, this project has significantly aided our goal to make the retail environment safer.
