Sainsbury’s has launched its Nectar loyalty programme on Deliveroo, allowing members to collect points when ordering the supermarket’s eligible products via the delivery app.
Deliveroo said it is the first delivery platform to support Nectar, which has a reach of around 24 million members and more than 500 partners. From today, shoppers placing orders through participating Sainsbury’s stores on Deliveroo can enter the card number linked to their Nectar account at checkout, earning one Nectar point per £1 spent on eligible items.
Announcing the rollout, Suzy McClintock, vice president of new verticals at Deliveroo, said: “We are delighted to be welcoming Nectar, one of the UK’s most valued and far-reaching loyalty schemes, to Deliveroo. This integration is a massive win for our customers, who can now earn points on their Sainsbury’s grocery orders, further establishing Deliveroo as the go-to destination for on-demand convenience and loyalty.”
Deliveroo said the move reflects the growing role of loyalty schemes in on-demand shopping, noting that a high proportion of UK consumers participate in at least one programme and look to make their money go further with targeted deals. Nectar points can be redeemed at Sainsbury’s and Argos, and used for fuel at Esso and flights with British Airways, alongside rewards with participating partners.
Sainsbury’s first partnered with Deliveroo in 2021 with just under 300 sites. The tie-up now spans more than 1,000 locations, with Deliveroo highlighting demand for essential fresh grocery items delivered quickly. Popular products among Sainsbury’s customers ordering through Deliveroo include Sainsbury’s Strawberries 400g, Sainsbury’s British Semi Skimmed Milk 2.27L (4 pint) and Sainsbury’s Fairtrade Bananas x5.
The Retail Gazette reported that shoppers will be able to insert their Nectar card number during checkout at participating Sainsbury’s shops on Deliveroo to collect points, with eligible items earning one point per £1 spent.
The expansion of loyalty on Deliveroo follows other integrations in recent months. In July, Morrisons launched More Card prices for Deliveroo shoppers following the rollout of its loyalty scheme on the app earlier in the year. B&Q also extended its partnership with Deliveroo to trial its service beyond London and Brighton, reaching a further 29 major UK cities and large towns.
Deliveroo said integrating loyalty schemes helps replicate the in-store experience for customers shopping on-demand, combining convenience with the ability to earn rewards across grocery, restaurant and retail partners.
