Sainsbury’s launches Nectar-linked loans through NatWest partnership

Sainsbury’s Money has launched its first personal loans through NatWest Boxed, giving Nectar members access to a representative 6.3 per cent APR as the supermarket reshapes its financial services business.

Customers can apply for the Sainsbury’s Personal Loan through the Sainsbury’s Money website, with the product powered by NatWest Boxed’s banking platform, technology and operational infrastructure. Nectar members can access the preferential rate by providing their loyalty card number.

Sainsbury’s Money will launch an instant access savings account in October as the second product under the partnership. The account will allow customers to make deposits and withdrawals without penalties, while the interest rate will be confirmed when the product launches and include an enhanced offer for Nectar members.

The products follow the launch of Sainsbury’s Money in July and the completion of the transformation of Sainsbury’s Bank. Sainsbury’s announced plans in 2024 to move away from operating a standalone bank and instead work with specialist partners to provide financial products under the Sainsbury’s Money brand.

The launch builds on a partnership between Sainsbury’s and NatWest first announced on 1 April 2026. The agreement set out plans for loans and savings products through Sainsbury’s digital channels, powered by NatWest Boxed, alongside a new NatWest Nectar credit card.

Andrew Ellis, chief executive of NatWest Boxed, said: “This partnership brings together Sainsbury’s Money’s understanding of its customers with our banking expertise and technology.” He said NatWest Boxed would provide the platform, banking capability and operational support while customers continued to access products through the Sainsbury’s Money experience.

Patrick Short, managing director of financial services at Sainsbury’s, said the partnership would combine NatWest’s banking expertise with Sainsbury’s understanding of its customers. “We can offer genuinely competitive products, with an even better rate for our Nectar members,” he said.

The partnership was announced following NatWest’s acquisition of Sainsbury’s Bank’s personal loan, credit card and retail deposit portfolios in 2025. NatWest Retail is expected to launch the NatWest Nectar credit card later this year, extending the partnership beyond loans and savings.

Nectar has more than 24 million members, according to information provided by the companies. The rollout marks the first customer-facing products delivered through Sainsbury’s new partner-led financial services model.
