Morrisons expands parcel locker service to larger stores

Morrisons has announced it is expanding a partnership to parcel storage lockers across its largest supermarkets in a bid to give shoppers more locations to collect and return online orders while completing their grocery shopping.

The rollout, in partnership with Quadient subsidiary Parcel Pending, follows the deployment of its lockers at 230 Morrisons Daily stores in spring last year. It will now extend to Morrisons supermarkets nationwide.

The installation of lockers began in June with 125 locations. The programme will expand across the retailer's network of around 500 supermarkets over the coming months.

The supermarket said the self-service lockers will allow customers to collect and return parcels from multiple delivery companies, while also supporting services including retail click-and-collect, prescription collection, key exchange and spare parts retrieval.

Quadient said its recent consumer research found that 60 per cent of shoppers prefer parcel lockers located at supermarkets, while 59 per cent want to manage deliveries from multiple carriers through a single collection point.

The rollout also expands Quadient's open locker network in the UK. The company has installed more than 27,000 locker units globally and aims to increase that figure to 40,000 by 2030.

“At Morrisons, we are committed to providing services that make life easier for our customers and strengthen the role our stores play within local communities,” John Parry, head of popular & useful services at Morrisons said. “Following the success of our Morrisons Daily partnership, expanding Quadient lockers into our supermarket estate is a natural next step.

“This partnership enables us to offer customers greater flexibility and convenience while enhancing the range of useful services available through our stores.”
