Mango has announced the appointment of Marlies Hersbach as its new chief people officer, the latest major promotion at the firm to overhaul its executive team.
Hersbach has worked at Mango for over six years, most recently as chief online and customer officer, and has also held the roles of e-commerce executive director, international retail director for France and international retail director for West Europe.
Prior to Mango, Hersbach worked at the French fast-fashion retailer Kiabi as its chief executive for Russia.
Hersbach will assume the role in January 2027. She succeeds David Payeras, who has served as Mango’s chief people officer since May 2021 and has worked in human resources roles for 25 years.
Her promotion follows that of Katarzyna Niemirowicz-Majtas, who joined the company in May as international retail director for Northern Europe and was promoted to chief retail officer in September.
Toni Ruiz, chairman and chief executive of Mango, said: “The decision to appoint Marlies to lead the people division is in line with our aim to further align Mango’s culture and values with our business strategy and reality, whilst also committing to the internationalisation of our company.
“This appointment also reflects our firm commitment to fostering internal talent and strengthening female leadership within the company’s senior management.”
The Barcelona-based retailer posted a turnover of €1.852 billion for the first half of 2026, an increase of 7.2 per cent compared to the same period last year. It also reported 127 store openings, bringing its total estate to 2,960 across over 120 markets.
In recent months Mango has taken steps to boost its online channel and digital presence, which the firm says account for 32 per cent of its business.
In September, it launched a new customer loyalty programme in UK, Germany, Austria, Ireland, Italy and Switzerland. Customers can use the programme to earn points towards rewards, while Mango uses their data to tailor offers and outreach.
