M&S launches recruitment drive for new automated Lichfield distribution hub

Marks & Spencer (M&S) has started recruiting for its new automated fashion distribution centre in Lichfield, with the first 70 roles now available ahead of the site's opening next year.

The retailer said the 437,000 sq. ft logistics hub will create around 600 jobs when fully operational. Current vacancies include management, operational and specialist positions.

M&S said the new distribution centre will add capacity to its 24-hour fashion, home and beauty supply chain, helping move products from suppliers to distribution centres, stores and customers more quickly.

The investment forms part of the retailer's strategy to double online sales across its Fashion, Home and Beauty business.

David James, supply chain and logistics director for Fashion, Home & Beauty at M&S, said: “Our new Lichfield hub will mean we can better serve our customers, delivering M&S fashion faster than ever before.

“As we get closer to launch, building the right team is crucial. From planners to team managers and technicians, in our first phase of recruitment we're looking for those who enjoy the fast pace of logistics and are keen to play a role in our exciting transformation journey.”

Alongside the logistics investment, M&S is also preparing to open a new 15,800 sq. ft food store at St John's Grange, Baker Way in Lichfield next March.

The retailer expects the store to create 70 jobs. It will recruit for positions including shift leads and customer assistants across shopfloor and operational teams.

The Lichfield store forms part of M&S's plan to open 18 new food stores during the current financial year as it continues to expand its larger-format food estate.
