Lidl invests £250m in price cuts across 1,000 items

Lidl has announced it will have invested £250 million in cutting the prices on over 1,000 items since the beginning of the year.

The discount retailer said the move will help its customers save money in the run-up to the festive season.

It added that the investment compliments its Lidl Plus app, which has features and campaigns that go beyond standard promotions, giving shoppers the chance to claim discounts on some of their favourite products.

“We’re committed to providing our customers with the best value every single day, and our teams work tirelessly throughout the year to deliver this for them,” said Richard Bourns, chief commercial officer at Lidl GB. “We also firmly believe that everyone should have access to healthy affordable food, which is why we ensure that we’re offering the lowest prices in the market and it’s why we’re on a mission to bring new Lidl stores to more communities across the country.”

The move comes after several other UK supermarkets have recently announced price cuts, including Morrisons which in September shared that it is cutting prices on around 650 products by an average of 18 per cent.

The supermarket said that prices for the reduced items, which include vegetables, laundry pods and meal kits, will remain on promotion for at least four to eight weeks.

Morrisons said the move would help customers stretch their household budgets ahead of spending moments like Christmas.

Rival discounter Aldi also announced last month that it will have invested over £300 million in price cuts since the start of 2025 to help customers with the cost of rising inflation.

The supermarket chain said that it has reduced over 900 prices across its range in recent months including fresh produce, bread, dairy and household essentials.
