Guess deploys warehouse robots in automated fulfilment expansion

Fashion brand Guess has deployed a new automated fulfilment solution involving 127 robots at its Venlo, Netherlands warehouse.

The company has acquired an Exotec Skypod automated storage solution, including a fleet of warehouse robots, 60,000 rack locations, eight goods-to-person picking stations and 200 metres of conveyor network.

The Venlo facility is manged by logistics provider GXO, who said that the new system can process between 40,000 and 70,000 pieces per day and achieve throughput of up to 2,200 order lines per hour at peak periods. This will increase Guess’s capacity for order fulfilment throughout Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

The solution was specially tailored to Guess’s needs, including high SKU counts, seasonal demand fluctuations and evolving customer needs, as well as introducing value-add solutions including quality control and garment conditioning and outbound distribution.

Guess is a US clothing company founded in 1981 that designs, markets, distributes and licenses a collection of apparel including handbags, denim, watches and footwear.

In January, Authentic Brands Group, a holding company that owns fashion brands including Juicy Couture and Reebok, completed its acquisition of 51 per cent of the company and delisted from the New York Stock Exchange.

At the time, Guess co-founder and chief creative officer Paul Marciano said: “I’m incredibly proud of the iconic fashion brand we’ve built over the last 45 years. Guess has become a worldwide leader in fashion, and joining Authentic’s outstanding platform, portfolio and track record of success will enable us to build on this incredible foundation and take our brand to the next level.

“I am grateful to our world-class team members and our licensee partners for their hard work and dedication and look forward to working with Jamie and the Authentic team as we continue delivering premium products to our customers around the world.”
