Evri appoints new chief data officer

Parcel delivery business Evri, formerly Hermes, has appointed Harvinder Atwal as its new chief data officer.

The new role has been introduced to help support the company’s growth and make sure it is using its data to maximise delivery performance.

Atwal joins the business from MoneySuperMarket where he was chief data scientist and was responsible for integrating advanced analytics and machine learning to deliver a personalised customer experience.

Prior to this he worked for Dunnhumby where he was insight director for the Tesco Clubcard Development.

In his new role Atwal will be focusing on developing a best practice data strategy for the business, setting a vision for data for the next 3-5 years. Evri said this would include “ensuring the business continues to operate to the highest standard of data compliance and security”.

“I was attracted to this role because of the scale of the business, its strong growth trajectory and the dynamism of the sector,” said Atwal. “My background is in operational research and using data algorithms to improve performance and I am excited to be using my skills to support Evri on its ongoing Transformation journey.”

Retail should not be a high-risk occupation. As a company, we are focused on listening to our colleagues and customers to help them with the issues they are facing in-store and so far, the feedback on our body cameras has been excellent. They act as a great visual deterrent, help to de-escalate situations and overall, this project has significantly aided our goal to make the retail environment safer.
