Deliveroo has surpassed two billion orders globally, the company said on Thursday, publishing new data that charts a shift in consumer behaviour since its launch in 2013.
The milestone highlights the platform’s expansion from a restaurant delivery service into a broader marketplace spanning groceries and retail. The company said its first order was a Margherita pizza from Rossopomodoro in Chelsea, London, while the billionth order was placed in Hong Kong and the two billionth in Paris, where a customer ordered a chicken rice bowl from Chipotle.
Deliveroo said the data reflects how usage has diversified across markets and categories over the past decade. Chief executive Miki Kuusi said the achievement was shared across the platform’s network, adding: “Reaching two billion orders is a huge milestone and I want to recognise everyone around the world who has played a part in getting us here.”
Global ordering trends show staple takeaway items still dominate, with the cheeseburger ranked as the most ordered restaurant item worldwide. The company said this held true across markets including the UK, Ireland, France, Belgium and the UAE, while regional preferences persisted, with Margherita pizza leading in Italy and iced coffee topping the list in Kuwait.
The company’s grocery data points to more routine purchasing behaviour, with four pints of semi-skimmed milk the most ordered item globally, followed by bananas and cucumbers. In retail, hydration sachets emerged as the top product, while gloves featured in the global top 10, which Deliveroo linked to customers pairing them with hot food orders such as chicken wings.
Deliveroo said it had also delivered around 195,000 bouquets of flowers globally over the past year, reflecting demand for non-food items tied to occasions and last-minute purchases. The company’s figures suggest that convenience-led ordering now extends beyond meals into everyday essentials and gifts.
In the UK, Deliveroo said its billionth domestic order was a late-night Meat Feast pizza from Papa Johns. It also identified Belfast as the city with the highest number of order customisations, while Bournemouth recorded the highest volume of extra sauce requests.
Founded in 2013 by William Shu and Greg Orlowski, Deliveroo now operates as part of DoorDash following a tie-up announced in 2025.
