Co-op expands Starship robot-deliveries to five additional stores

Co-op has announced it is expanding its Starship Technologies-run robot delivery service to an additional five stores in Northampton.

The expanded robot service, which delivers same day, on-demand grocery orders, will add a further 20,000 households to the delivery remit.

The total number of households served by Starship, which has a food delivery app on iOS and Android, will now hit more than 80,000.

“Co-op is committed to exploring new and innovative ways to increase access to our products and services,” said Chris Conway, Co-op, head of e-commerce. “Our members and our customers lead busy lives and ease, speed and convenience is at the heart of our approach. Co-op stores are well placed, close to our customers, to serve shoppers locally.

“Orders are picked locally, in store, and a key part of our strategy is to use our physical footprint to also offer same-day, rapid, home deliveries. As a convenience retailer, the ability to come into stores is important to customers, but shoppers also increasingly want flexible options online - our focus is on getting closer to our customers and to provide what they need, conveniently, however they choose to shop with us.”
