Asos appoints ex-Amazon CFO as chair of board

Asos has announces the appointment of Natasja Laheij as chair if its board and the appointment of William Barker as deputy chair.

Laheij will take up the role from the end of the year while Barker will step into his role immediately.

Laheij has 30 years of experience in international commercial & financial management across a range of sectors, including e-commerce and technology.

From 2014 to 2019, she worked at Amazon, holding the role of chief financial officer (CFO) for over three years at Amazon Fashion Europe.

Additionally, she has held roles at Apple, Sony Ericsson and Google and is currently audit chair of Vandemoortele NV, a privately owned food producer. She is due to step down from her position as interim CFO at Personio, a privately owned HR SaaS provider, by September 2025.

Laheij joined the Asos board in April 2023 as an independent non-executive director, serving as chair of the audit committee, and as a member of the remuneration committee, and was appointed as senior independent director in February 2024.

She replaces Jørgen Lindemann, who joined the Asos board November 2021 and has served as chair since August 2022. Lindemann, who is also chief executive of Viaplay Group, has decided to step down following a handover period at the end of his current term.

Barker William joined the Asos board in September 2023 as non-executive director and is a member of the nomination committee.

He is the founder and chief executive of Camelot Capital Partners LLC. a California-based investment company, and has experience founding, building, and turning around digitally-enabled businesses.

Additionally, he is serving as co-founder and co-executive chairman of Slate Auto, an electric-vehicle company based in Detroit, and Tapi Carpets & Floors, Europe's largest flooring retailer.

Asos said the newly created deputy chair role is designed to support the chair and the management committee on strategy, culture and operational initiatives as required.

"I would like to extend my deepest thanks to Jørgen, whose support has been invaluable to Asos throughout his tenure on the board,” said José Antonio Ramos Calamonte, Asos chief executive. “I look forward to working closely with Natasja given her extensive governance experience, and with William given his knowledge of Asos and operational expertise as we continue to execute our strategy."

Last month, Asos appointed its current director of group finance, Aaron Izzard, as its new CFO.

The announcement came as the British fashion retailer confirmed that its current finance chief, Dave Murray, will step down on 30 June to pursue other opportunities.
