Amazon has said that in 2024 automakers will for the first time be able to sell vehicles on the platform in the US.
The announcement comes as Amazon partners with Hyundai, who will be the first brand available on the website.
The e-commerce giant says that when it launches next year, customers will be able to search for available vehicles in their area based on a number of preferences, including model, trim, colour, and features. Customers will buy the car directly through the Amazon check out process.
As part of the partnership with Amazon, Hyundai has also chosen Amazon Web Services (AWS) to provide cloud services and will roll out Alexa Built-in in its vehicles.
From 2025, customers who purchase Hyundai’s next-generation vehicles will be able to access the same home Alexa experience in their car.
"Hyundai is a very innovative company that shares Amazon’s passion for trying to make customers’ lives better and easier every day,” said Amazon chief executive Andy Jassy. “Our broad, strategic partnership should do just that, from changing the ease with which customers can buy vehicles online to making it simple to use Alexa in Hyundai vehicles for entertainment, shopping, smart home adjustments, and calendar checks to enabling Hyundai to transform their customer experiences and business operations by moving to AWS.”
