Aldi will open 24 new stores across the UK before Christmas, as the supermarket expands its estate and targets further sales growth after reporting record annual turnover of £19 billion.
The retailer, which currently operates 1,092 stores, said on 2 October that it would open or relocate almost 30 sites over the next 10 weeks. The programme will extend Aldi’s presence across England, Wales and Scotland, with new locations including Bishop’s Cleeve, Malton, Orpington, Ashford, Newport and Basildon.
Aldi will open further stores in Matlock, Wimborne, Stepney Green, Orrell, Dumbarton, Stourport-on-Severn, Epsom, Wellington and Hattersley before the end of 2026. New branches are planned for Hanworth, Willesden, Longbridge, Waterlooville, Egremont, Lower Gornal, Driffield and Chatham, while existing stores in Sudbury, Sutton Coldfield and Wigan will relocate.
Aldi UK and Ireland chief executive Giles Hurley said the company was continuing to invest in stores while reducing prices and extending agreements with British suppliers. “We’re working hard to make good food more affordable for every family,” Hurley said.
The expansion follows Aldi’s annual results for the 12 months to 31 December 2025, which showed turnover rising five per cent to a record £19 billion. Kantar data cited by the retailer puts Aldi’s UK grocery market share at 10.6 per cent for the 12 weeks to 6 September 2026.
Aldi said it had invested £340 million in price reductions across more than 1,000 products during 2026, including orange juice, butter, fresh meat and frozen fish. The retailer said it would continue cutting prices in the run-up to Christmas.
Retail Gazette reported that Aldi had recently announced plans to invest a record £900 million in new stores and distribution centres across Britain in 2027. The investment forms part of the supermarket’s longer-term expansion programme as it increases its physical presence in the UK.
Aldi has been ranked the UK’s cheapest supermarket by Which? for the past five years, according to the retailer, while its latest trading update said sales growth was being driven by customers buying more products across its expanding store network.
